"The View"--Argues over Gay Marriage

  1. It is clear that most, if not all, of these women support same-sex marriage to some extent. However, each of them has their own varying reason why. This demonstrates that the line between making gay marriage legal and keeping illegal is not clearly defined. For instance, some people do not agree, but see it as the persons own decision. Other people may be supportive because they are involved, or have hopes of a gay marriage one day. Many people are even for it; however they do not want to consider it a scared marriage (this would be a civil union). People in general raise many questions. Is marriage a civil right? Gays do experience some form of discrimination, however how should it be dealt with in order to satisfy the majority and still be fair? This is difficult and is hard to please everyone, which is why the issue has yet to be solved even though it began at the same time as the Civil Rights Movement.

I believe the issues that these women raise define the views of a majority of the population, which is an unclear. It doesn’t necessarily mean that they are opposed to it if they don’t want it. It just means that they may have a differing opinion in order for its support. However, there is still a large percentage of the population that is brutally against it, and hold back the gay rights movement through their protest and votes.
